Spurs 'showed up' to survive in Premier League: Palhinha
Tottenham Hotspur's Joao Palhinha said that the team "showed up" in a 1-0 win against Everton on Sunday which secured their Premier League survival.
Defeat at Chelsea on Tuesday meant that Roberto De Zerbi's Spurs required a draw to guarantee survival and ensure West Ham's result at home to Leeds had no bearing on the north London club's destiny.
Portuguese midfielder Palhinha scored the only goal of the game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium shortly before half-time.
West Ham beat Leeds 3-0 but the result proved irrelevant.
The Hammers finished in 18th spot, two points behind Spurs, to join Burnley and Wolves in the Championship next season.
"It's an amazing feeling after a really tough season," Palhinha told Sky Sports.
"A lot of things happened this season but we showed today what we can do. After a bad season like this one we showed up as a collective and had amazing support from the fans.
"The club will grow up with this season and we know what we have to do in the future. It's a big pleasure to play here with a top coach and top teammates. We have to celebrate even if we didn't finish in the position we deserve as Tottenham."
